The GCLBA is a governmental organization formed in 2004 with the mission of restoring value to the community by acquiring, developing, and selling vacant and abandoned properties in cooperation with stakeholders who value responsible land ownership. Each year, the GCLBA accepts thousands of properties from the Genesee County Treasurer after tax-foreclosure and the required auctions. Most of the properties have been vacant for years and are now blighted and in need of investment. Before the Land Bank began operating, vacant properties in Genesee County had hundreds of different owners, most of whom did not live or work in the area.

The Land Bank was created so that our local government could receive tax-foreclosed properties, secure resources to address the challenges remaining on them, and begin to put them back into productive use.

We have programs in place to eliminate blight, promote affordable homeownership, create economic opportunities, activate vacant land, and engage the community.

Our mission is to restore value to the community by acquiring, developing and selling vacant and abandoned properties in cooperation with stakeholders who value responsible land ownership.
