Homeownership

Our work reflects the community we serve. Did you know 83% of Land Bank homes are sold to homeowners or their family members? We make homeownership affordable and attainable.
Dan Chandanis, a Flint homebuyer and father of seven, recently purchased a “Featured Home” through our land contract program. He and his family improved the basement, siding, windows, and flooring. “The Land Bank has been awesome. It means a lot to know it’s ours,” he said.

Clean & Green

Local residents and volunteers help maintain vacant properties, making our community cleaner and safer. Our seasonal workforce mows and cleans properties. Research shows our Clean & Green program has led to:

  • 30% fewer assaults
  • 40% fewer child maltreatment cases
  • 40% fewer violent crimes
  • 9,000+ residents involved in Clean & Green including 4,000 area youth
Re-using Vacant Land

Vacant land offers opportunities to reshape our community. Over the last 20 years, we’ve sold more than 5,000 vacant lots. Over 1,050 lots were adopted for green spaces or gardens, like the Martin Luther King Peace Garden, created after demolishing abandoned homes.

Clearing the Way for a Brighter Future

Demolitions are crucial to our work. Since 2004, we've demolished 9,000 blighted structures and secured over $165 million for blight elimination and neighborhood improvements.

The Land Bank's Key Role in Commercial Redevelopment

The Lank Bank is playing a critical role in many important redevelopment projects taking place in our community. One is the $30 million expansion and renovation of Berston Field House, underway right now. We worked with Berston, enabling them to acquire more than 33 vacant, abandoned properties that will come back to life as part of the renovation. In some cases, we also demolished abandoned structures to make the space ready for redevelopment. And that's just one current project. Click the video player to learn more.

The Land Bank has leveraged more than $230 million for redevelopment of vacant properties. Transformational projects include: Chevy Commons, Insight Institute of Neurosurgery and Neuroscience, the Durant, Clark Commons, Oak Street Senior Apartments, the Land Bank Center, Berridge Place, and many more.
