Events

  • June 23rd – Start of First Round / Meet the Goats (Private)Neighbors and MHNA Associates are given priority to be the first residents meet and greet with the Goats. Goats begin first round of eliminating Buckthorn after GCLB crew does mechanical clearing and illegal dumping removal.
  • June 25th – End of First RoundGoats have cleared the area of Buckthorn for the first round. Buckthorn begins regrowth process.
  • July 21st – Start of Second RoundGoats return for second round to clear new Buckthorn growth to aid in removal of Buckthorn “at the root.”
  • July 25th – Meet the Goats (Public)Public “Meet the Goats” event hosted by the Genesee County Land Bank. Residents and visitors will have opportunity to sign-up for “Goat Tours” which include entering enclosure and interacting with the goats. Snacks and refreshments provided along with information about the goat process.
  • July 25th –Secure your spot to feed the goats by registering for free tickets for the July 25th goat tours in advance!

  • August 18th – Start of Third Round
  • August 22nd – Meet the Goats (Public)Public “Meet the Goats” event hosted by the Genesee County Land Bank. Residents and visitors will have opportunity to sign-up for “Goat Tours” which include entering enclosure and interacting with the goats. Snacks and refreshments provided along with information about the goat process.
  • August 22nd – End of Third Round
  • September 5th – Native Species Planting and EnhancementResidents and members join at newly cleared Stone St parcels to replant with flowering native plants and ensure healthy tree growth.
  • September 13th – Boulder installationBoulders will be installed around perimeter of Stone St parcels to both deter dumping and add visual enhancement for the site.

Goats Are Coming to Ramona Park!

This summer, a herd of goats will begin clearing overgrown invasive brush, specifically Buckthorn, from several vacant lots located next to Ramona Park in Flint’s historic Metawanenee Hills neighborhood. This project is an innovative and environmentally friendly way to create access to this neighborhood green space for everyone. 
In partnership with the community,  we are transforming Stone Street into a vibrant, active, park-like haven for the neighborhood, together!
